Data Used in Calculations

Data Collection

The Commission endeavours to use data from reliable third party resources such as the Australian Bureau of Statistics and State Government Departments.

However, some of the data used in the grant methodology is sourced directly from local governments. This information is collected through an annual collection instrument developed by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation. The collection instrument is distributed through the Commission and is a consolidated collection of financial, management and performance information.

When the Commission requests information from local governments it is important councils note the due date. All information used by the Commission is analysed and validated before it may be used in any calculations or research. The due date is generally the latest date that information can be received by the Commission for it to be used in any calculations or research. Information received after this date may not be used.

The collection instrument was distributed to all councils on 19 August 2005 for the year ended 30 June 2005. Councils are requested to return this data collection to the Commission by 30 November 2005.
